gwendolyn sage turns one

Updated: May 20, 2020

I have always really loved photos that are natural and show people and families in the moment, even for a Cake Smash you really want to show how much fun they are having getting an entire cake to themselves!

However, for my daughter's first birthday shoot I had something specific in mind. I hung the drop cloth with some clamps and the wreaths with fishing line to create the super clean, simple look I was going for - voila!

Maybe I was overzealous with my "Voila!"... Add in the floral crown which wouldn't stay on and the wreaths (which turned out so beautiful) and a couple flowers for the cake and then we are actually ready.

I made her cake, which was super simple - vanilla on vanilla. Traditions are so important to me and making my children's celebration sweets is something I will always do! Gwen was so sweet in the beginning of the shoot, I honestly thought she would attack this cake based on how much she eats normally, but she was so gentle! It was really precious to watch and so much fun to be able to capture her.

I really loved how it turned out and I will cherish it forever!

Happy Birthday my sweet little lady!
